Hey sis! I’m Dionne.
Yeah – a complicated masterpiece – that’s the best way to describe my life.
I’m a Christ lover, wife, mother of two (#spectrummom), dementia advocate (#sandwichgeneration – playing a part in the care of an aging parent while raising young children), and an entrepreneur with more ideas than there are hours in the day. I also have many passions…
- Foodie
- Literature & language buff
- Die-hard music lover with an eclectic taste
- Shoe collector
- Makeup junkie
- Interior decorator in another life
- Health & fitness newbie (#teamvsg – 80 pounds and counting)
- Service enthusiast (Z-Phi! to my sorors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated)
And a Philly girl all day (born & raised).
What can I say…welcome to #mycrazylovelyworld.
Like most Black women, I found myself being so many things to so many people, and I was managing okay for a while!
For years I struggled with prioritizing self-care – until I found myself stressed, overwhelmed, stretched thin, misaligned with my purpose and passions, severely obese – and on the brink of a stroke in 2016. I had exceeded my bandwith.
The idea of leaving my husband and two young children behind and no true impact was my epiphany, and just the push I needed to make some big changes – mind, body, and spirit.
But what’s a dreamer and creative to do, especially when my mental, physical, and spiritual health suffer the most?
And for Black women, this thing called life takes on a whole new meaning.
Through Complicated Masterpiece, I share my journey of maintaining my identity in Christ, juggling many hats – and taking better care of me.
Sis…YOU are God’s complicated masterpiece, too! There are so many layers to who you are, but you don’t have to do this thing called life alone. I’m done with Super Woman Syndrome! Are you?
Hope you’ll join me on this journey. Join the ranks of hundreds of sistas who are determined to shake “Superwoman Syndrome” and normalize self-care – all while pursuing their God-given passions.
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
Keep shining…
