How are you holding up sis? No, really?
I’ll be honest with you. I was already operating at capacity before 2020, and was just beginning (with help from my therapist) to unload some mental, emotional, and physical weight.
But then the COVID-19 pandemic happened, along with systemic racism at the forefront, senseless slayings of countless Black people, and the circus that is the general election, truly bringing out a fluster of raw emotions that I just couldn’t begin to process…
I’m learning that it’s important to slow down, stay grounded, and focus on self-care more than ever, instead of burying myself in my business, my kids, housework, or “busy work”. Here’s why…
We’re only human
Listen girl, Superwoman is dead! You don’t have to do it all…give yourself some grace. To expect yourself to show up and perform at your best during these crazy times is unrealistic. Start setting boundaries, prioritize, delegate, ask for help – whatever you need to do you avoid burnout.
You can’t pour from an empty cup
I know what it’s like to run on fumes. Just like your car, you have to gas up or you’ll be stuck and unable to do a thing. The best thing you can do for the ones you love is to pour into yourself.
God doesn’t want this for you
Do you really think that your Father wants you walking around stressed, upset, and flustered? Like earthly parents, He sees your pain, heartache, and fear, and desires the best possible life for you…and part of living (not existing) is to truly find joy. (Nehemiah 8:10)
I compiled a list of scriptures and useful tools that continue to help me stay centered and cope during these crazy times. Be sure to grab your copy. I hope you find them useful.
